Richard Deitz
 

Richard Deitz serves as senior economist for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s Buffalo Branch and has been with the Branch since 1998.  He provides economic analysis of upstate New York for the Federal Reserve System and often consults with state and local governments on regional economic issues.  As the Branch’s senior economist, Rich created the Empire State Manufacturing Survey, an economic indicator now followed worldwide, and the Upstate New York Regional Review, a newsletter focused on important issues impacting upstate New York’s economy.  Additionally, he contributes to writing of the Federal Reserve’s Beige Book report.

Prior to joining the Federal Reserve, Rich was as an instructor in the economics department for several upstate New York universities, including Canisius College, the University of Buffalo, the Rochester Institute of Technology, Saint Lawrence University and Binghamton University. 

Currently, Rich serves on the Board of Economic Advisors for the New York State Division of the Budget and the New York State Assembly Ways and Means Committee.  He also resides on the Board of Directors for the New York State Economics Association, where he served as president, and is past president of the Regional New York Center for Financial Training. 

Rich's work has been published in various professional and academic publications, including Regional Science and Urban Economics; the Journal of Urban Economics; and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s Current Issues in Economics and Finance.  He is often quoted in newspapers on both the regional and national level, including the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, and has appeared on CNN, CNBC and Bloomberg Television. 

Rich has a Ph.D. in economics from Binghamton University.
