Check Delays Resulting From Severe Weather in the Northeast
January 12, 1998
Circular No. 11016

To All Depository Institutions and Others Concerned in the Second Federal Reserve District:

Due to severe weather conditions caused by the ice storms of January 7-8, 1998, and the closing of airports and highways throughout the northeastern New York region, delays have occurred in the presentment of cash items, in the return of unpaid items, and in the forwarding of advices of nonpayment with respect to depository institutions in the Utica territory. In the aftermath of the storm, conditions have continuously improved.

Effective today, January 12, 1998, this Bank will make presentment to all of the depository institutions in the affected area, except Watertown Savings Bank (2213-7135-6) and Redwood National Bank (0213-0928-5). However, this Bank has been informed that a small number of depository institutions in the affected area continue to be experiencing difficulties due to the storm; therefore delays in the return of unpaid items and the forwarding of advices of nonpayment may continue.
