Why the Fed?

Hearing about the Fed so regularly in the news, I was convinced that learning about financial markets from the Fed’s perspective would be both a unique and enriching experience. I was part of the Boston Fed’s internship program during the summer of 2005, and was quite impressed with the amount of knowledge I gained in one summer while maintaining a good work/life balance.

My Responsibilities

Rotational analysts typically rotate throughout various groups within the Markets umbrella. I am currently training to support both the Treasury Auction and the Treasury Market Policy Staff. My responsibilities have both operational and analytical components, which generally involve analyzing and monitoring the debt market, with a particular focus on Treasury securities.

Challenges and Rewards of My Job

This job is challenging due to the breadth of knowledge required to truly appreciate the work we do and the fast-paced nature of our group. It is also exciting to follow market developments so closely and to be part of the team that actually implements monetary policy.

How Is the Fed Unique?
The Fed distinguishes itself with the quality of its employees. After spending roughly a year at the New York Fed, I can truly attest to the fact that our reputation for integrity is well-deserved. Additionally, the culture here actively promotes employee growth and a team mentality.
