New York Fed to Launch New Survey of Consumer Expectations
January 7, 2014

NEW YORK—The Federal Reserve Bank of New York will launch its Survey of Consumer Expectations Monday, January 13 at 11 a.m. EST.  The new survey provides timely information about consumer expectations and behavior through three broad categories: inflation, labor market and household finances.  A media call with the survey’s authors is scheduled for 10 a.m.  Information will be made available under embargo at 9 a.m.

The Survey of Consumer Expectations contains information about how consumers expect overall inflation and prices for food, gas, housing and education to behave. It also provides insight about Americans’ views about job prospects and wage growth, as well as their expectations about future spending and access to credit. Expectations are also available by age, geography, income, education and financial literacy.

Going forward, the survey will be released at 11 a.m. the second Monday of each month, with the material available under embargo an hour before.

The New York Fed introduced the survey in a series of four blog posts in December.
