Press Release
Brooklyn College Students Win 2014 Savvy Credit Video Festival
February 6, 2014

A video produced by students from Brooklyn College has won first place in the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s annual Savvy Credit Video Festival. The winning entry, “Elevate Your Credit,” was chosen from among 10 finalists at an event held yesterday at the Bank.

“Elevate Your Credit” contrasts the potential perils of irresponsible credit use with the upside of building a good credit score.

The winning video will be shown in seven local movie theaters throughout New York City. The students will also receive career advice from a leading entertainment professional along with a $3,000 cash prize from the New York Bankers Association, the Festival’s co-sponsors.

A panel of judges, comprised of industry professionals, reviewed and evaluated the finalists.  The second place video was “Texting and Credit,” produced by students from LaGuardia Community College. The third place video, “Credit Oath,” was produced by students from Bloomfield College.

Additionally, “Debt Stalker,” created by students from Manhattan College earned the Social Media Prize for receiving the most online votes from the public.

More than 30 videos from 18 different local colleges and universities were entered into this year’s competition, which seeks to advance financial literacy among young adults. The top three videos can be viewed on the Savvy Credit Video Festival website.

About the New York Fed’s Savvy Credit Video Festival:
The Bank's Regional and Community Outreach team created the Savvy Credit Video Festival as a way to advance financial literacy among young adults. The contest challenges college students to produce a 30-second video promoting wise credit use. Each year, the New York Fed sponsors two festivals: one in Puerto Rico and another for the tri-state region of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
