The Domestic Research Function conducts long-term research on a broad range of domestic macroeconomic and microeconomic issues. This research is geared toward academic and Federal Reserve publications. Domestic Research, in conjunction with the Business Conditions Function, analyzes current conditions in the national and regional economies and their implications for monetary policy.
 
Recent research topics include:
  • changes in the inflation-unemployment relationship,
  • the monetary policy transmission mechanism,
  • monetary policy at the zero bound,
  • monetary policy and productivity growth,
  • sources of productivity growth,
  • reduction in the volatility of economic fluctuations,
  • inventories and the business cycle,
  • household portfolio composition,
  • individual income and wage volatility,
  • urban unemployment and local interactions, and
  • the differentiation of structural from cyclical fluctuations in U.S. labor markets.
