Joseph J. Ashton is the director of Region 9 United Auto Workers (UAW). He was the assistant regional director of Region 9 UAW from 2003 to June 2006.

Mr. Ashton served as area director of Region 9 UAW, Pennsylvania from 1996 to 2002, international representative for the same region from 1986 to 2002 and president of UAW Local 1612 from 1976 to 1986.

Mr. Ashton is a member of the Statewide Labor Advisory Committee for Pennsylvania and the Northeast-Midwest Alliance of Management and Labor, Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Industrial Relations Research Association of Pennsylvania and executive vice president of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO Executive Council. Mr. Ashton is also a member of the New Jersey AFL-CIO, the MS Foundation and a lifetime member of the NAACP.
