Visiting the New York Fed

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York is one of the 12 regional Reserve Banks in the Federal Reserve System. Visitors to the Bank will be able to explore the Fed's roles and responsibilities through a guided tour and interactive exhibits in the Bank's museum.

FedWorks: Money, Banking and the Federal Reserve System
Learn about the central banking functions of the Federal Reserve System through an interactive, multimedia exhibit that allows visitors to participate in a monetary policy simulation and to learn about the Fed's role in the economy.

Announcement: Please be advised that as of October 9, 2012, the exhibit "Drachmas, Doubloons, and Dollars: The History of Money" is no longer available for viewing at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. The vacated area is currently under renovation.

Plan your visit

Visitors must enter the building at 44 Maiden Lane.

  • Visitors are required to bring a printed copy of their visitor ticket and a government-issued photo ID such as a driver's license or passport. The name on the ID and visitor's ticket must match.
  • All visitors to the Bank should be at least 16 years old; content covered in the tour is not appropriate for a young audience.
  • All visitors and bags are subject to security screening.
  • Limit the number of belongings you bring to the museum; bag storage is not available.
  • Taking pictures or videos is not allowed in any part of the building.
  • The Federal Reserve Bank of New York reserves the right to cancel guided tours and visits to the Museum at any point, including if there is a need for heightened security.

Reservations: Tours can be booked as far as four months in advance. Registration is online only, and prospective visitors are encouraged to schedule their visits early as spaces are limited and fill up quickly.
Details: Guided tours serve as a comprehensive introduction to the Federal Reserve System and the New York Fed's role in setting monetary policy, promoting financial stability, and serving communities to advance economic growth. During the tour, visitors hear a description of the primary ways that the Federal Reserve carries out its goals as mandated by Congress-- maximum sustainable employment and price stability. It also includes a brief visit to the gold vault where the New York Fed has historically acted as a custodian for gold owned by various governments and international agencies. The tour is an interactive educational experience to engage visitors in conversation about the central bank of the United States.
Available days: Monday to Friday, except Bank holidays. Subject to change.
Available times: 11:15 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 12:45 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:15 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Tour length: 45 minutes
Tour Capacity: Up to 25 visitors
Cost: Free
Note: High school groups must have one teacher/adult supervisor for every eight students. Students who are part of a school group must be at least 16 years old or juniors in high school.



Reservations: Registration is online only.
Details: Take a self-guided visit of the Museum at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Self-guided visits do not include the gold vault. Note: The exhibits are currently under renovation.
