Teaching About the Global Economy Using the Internet
(Grades 9-12)

A curriculum guide (pdf size 86KB) - containing five in-class activities, each based on existing web sites, intended to increase students’ understanding of globalization and its impact on the economies of the U.S. and the rest of the world.

1. Foreign Trade (pdf size 660KB) - students will analyze the most recent U.S. trade data and then explain its significance after examining the views of experts in the field

2. Foreign Exchange (pdf size 693KB) - students will interpret charts of current exchange rates of currencies from different countries, examine the impact of exchange rate fluctuations on those countries, and suggest causes for those fluctuations

3. Economic and Monetary Union (pdf size 294KB) - students will discuss the major features of the (European) Economic and Monetary Union (EMU), examine the economies of EMU member-nations, and analyze the advantages and disadvantages of joining EMU

4. Developing Nations (pdf size 546KB) - students will examine the economic challenges facing developing nations from the perspective of those nations and the world’s industrial powers by participating in a simulation of a global economic forum

5. Current Global Economic Events (pdf size 533KB) - students will look at current economic events of global significance from the perspective of different nations after reading newspapers from countries around the world
