Rebecca Hellerstein joined the Federal Reserve Bank of New York in September 2003 as an Economist in the International Research Group. Her research interests are in international economics, macroeconomics, and industrial organization. Rebecca’s research covers the dynamics of exchange-rate movements and the implications for real economic adjustment, as well as the relationships between the exchange rate, monetary policy, and real economic activity. Her paper, “Who Bears the Cost of a Change in the Exchange Rate?”, was recently accepted at the Journal of International Economics. She also has interests in monetary policy, and recently published a paper, “Is There a Dead Spot?”—on the interaction between fiscal and monetary authorities before elections—in the Journal of Money, Credit, and Banking. Rebecca holds a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley (awarded 2003) and a B.A. from Harvard College.
