Mr. Klitgaard joined the Federal Reserve Bank of New York in 1984 as an Economist in International Research Function. He covered U.S. trade issues until 1999 when he took over responsibilities for tracking developments in the euro area. His responsibilities also include coordinating the Banks global outlook. Prior to joining the New York Fed, Mr. Klitgaard was employed twice by the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco-- 1977 to 1978 as a Research Assistant in the Banking Studies Division and from 1982 to 1984 as an Assistant Economist in the Regional Studies Division. Mr. Klitgaard received B.A. degrees in both mathematics and economics from the University of California, Berkeley (1977) and a Ph.D. in economics from Stanford University (1985).
