New York Fed to Release Next Economic Inequality Research Series on Wealth Inequality

February 05, 2024

NEW YORK—On Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at 10:00 AM, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York will release a two-part research series on its Liberty Street Economics (LSE) blog exploring wealth inequality, examining the distributions of wealth across racial, ethnic, and age groups and how they have changed since the beginning of the pandemic.

The new series builds on the recurring LSE Economic Inequality research series, which highlights differences in economic outcomes and policy impacts by race, gender, age, geography, income, education, and other factors.

The upcoming posts draw on the New York Fed’s wealth Equitable Growth Indicators (EGIs), among other data. In conjunction with the posts, the New York Fed will also update the wealth EGIs at 10:00 AM. The wealth EGIs report heterogeneity in wealth and its main asset and liabilities components by age, race and ethnicity, education, income, and wealth groups on a national level.

The latest series includes:

Racial and Ethnic Wealth Inequality in the Post-Pandemic Era,” which examines disparities between Black, Hispanic, and white households for wealth and other asset and liability categories, and how these disparities have changed since the beginning of the pandemic.

Wealth Inequality by Age in the Post-Pandemic Era” which discusses the distribution of wealth across age groups, specifically depicting how the distribution has changed since the beginning of the pandemic.
