Michael Schetzel is a vice president and chief of staff in the Executive Office of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He had been deputy chief of staff since January 2009.
Mr. Schetzel joined the Bank in June 1996 as a bank examiner in the financial examinations department and was reassigned the next year to the Markets Group as a trader/analyst in government securities. He has held various positions in the Markets Group over the years. In 2005, he was appointed an officer of the Bank and assigned to the foreign exchange and investments staff.
In September 2006, Mr. Schetzel resigned to accept a position as a portfolio strategist at Bridgewater Associates. He was re-employed in October 2007 as an assistant vice president in the Markets Group and in June 2008 became the Group’s chief of staff.
Mr. Schetzel holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Maryland and a master's in international affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs.
