"Young Sophocles"
"Young Sophocles," by John Talbott Donoghue, on loan from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, stands in the entrance of the main lobby of the Bank. Inspired by his reading of plays of Sophocles, Donoghue chose to portray a significant moment in the Greek dramatist's life. Because of Young Sophocles' athletic prowess, skill in music and beauty of physique, he was selected in 480 BC to lead the chorus of victory after the Battle of Salamis.
