Tools for Building Sustainable Rural Communities Conference
April 25-26, 2002
Wilkes-Barre, PA

What challenges do citizens and business owners face in rural communities? What strategies and creative solutions have been employed by local practitioners to preserve and strengthen their rural economies? The conference examined these questions and focused on the exciting changes taking place in rural communities throughout the Northeast. These communities are seizing opportunities by upgrading their telecommunications infrastructures, using innovative financing to jump start new businesses, selling scenery and green space, and building wealth by promoting home ownership. These are but a few of the topics that were addressed at the conference. This conference included rural-development practitioners, national leaders, and others who want to learn from each other in order to help meet tomorrow's challenges creatively and resourcefully.
