NEW YORK—Federal Reserve Bank of New York President John C. Williams will visit Rochester and Syracuse, New York, on September 29 and September 30 to meet with leaders in business, government, and community and economic development.
The regional visit will begin on Monday, September 29, in Rochester, where President Williams will visit the historic Sibley Building to learn about redevelopment efforts in the downtown area. He will then meet with Rochester government officials to hear about local economic conditions. Following that, he will meet with business leaders to discuss developments in the optics, photonics, and imaging industry.
President Williams will then visit the Rochester Institute of Technology, where he will hear from university leadership about recent initiatives and the school’s impact on the local economy. He also will meet with students and participate in a moderated discussion on the U.S. economic outlook.
Next, President Williams will join community development leaders to hear about key issues affecting households in the region, including housing, workforce development, and transportation. He will conclude the day by meeting with current and former members of the New York Fed’s board of directors and advisory groups to hear about economic conditions in Rochester and Syracuse.
On Tuesday, September 30, President Williams will travel to Syracuse, where he will meet with government officials to hear about economic activity and challenges in the region. He will then meet with business and economic development leaders to learn about the region’s burgeoning semiconductor industry ecosystem and its economic impact.
Next, President Williams will visit the STEAM High School in Syracuse to learn about the region’s first high school focused on science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. Following that, he will visit the largest Amazon distribution center in New York to hear about business operations, workforce development, and technology.
To conclude the regional visit, President Williams will travel to the headquarters of NUAIR, a nonprofit focused on uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) and airspace innovation, to learn how the industry is contributing to the region’s economy.
These meetings serve to inform President Williams on regional issues and are part of the New York Fed’s ongoing efforts to assess economic conditions across the Federal Reserve’s Second District, which includes New York State, northern New Jersey, southwestern Connecticut, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
