NEW YORK—On Friday, October 16, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York will host a hybrid research symposium, “The Secular Rise in Markups: Measurement, Causes, and Macroeconomic Implications.” Organized by the New York Fed’s Applied Macroeconomics and Econometrics Center, the symposium will investigate the secular rise in markups, defined as the difference between sale price and production costs. It will address the extent, likely causes, and monetary policy implications of the rise.
The sessions will cover measuring the rise in markups; causes of the increase; and the macroeconomic implications of the rise.
The conference is open to the public virtually. Further details and registration information are available on the event page.
The event is open to media both virtually and in person. All remarks are on the record and a recording will be made available afterward. Media who wish to attend must register by contacting Ellen Simon at Ellen.Simon@ny.frb.org.
