Three New Members Appointed to New York Fed’s Second District Advisory Council

NEW YORK—The Federal Reserve Bank of New York today announced the appointment of three new members to its Second District Advisory Council, a group of senior business leaders that provides the New York Fed president and leadership with insights about business and economic conditions in the Second District. The new members are Daniel Cunha of Avis Budget Group, Inc.; Mario Harik of XPO; and Diego Suárez, Jr. of V. Suárez & Co., Inc.

Cunha is chief financial officer of Avis Budget Group, a car rental company headquartered in Parsippany, New Jersey. Prior to joining the company, Cunha served as chief financial officer at Orion Services Group. He previously held chief financial officer roles at Ocean Spray and Heinz North America. He began his career at McKinsey & Company and later worked at GP Investments. Cunha graduated from Brazil’s Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica with a degree in mechanical aeronautical engineering and has an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Harik is chairman and CEO of XPO, a major provider of less-than-truckload freight transportation based in Greenwich, Connecticut. Harik previously served as XPO’s chief information officer. Prior to XPO, he held positions as chief information officer and senior vice president of research and development with Oakleaf Waste Management and chief technology officer with Tallan, Inc. He has a master’s degree in information technology engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a degree in computer and communications engineering from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon.

Suárez is the chairman of the board & CEO of V. Suárez & Co., Inc., a food and beverage distribution company in Puerto Rico and a family-owned business since 1943. The 600-employee diversified company has beverage manufacturing and beverage brand ownership lines and runs a corporate financial portfolio. Prior to joining the company, Suárez held sales and marketing positions at Joseph E. Seagram & Sons, F&M Schaeffer Brewing Company, Inc., and Premier Maldonado & Associates. Suárez has a bachelor’s in business administration in management and marketing form the University of Miami.
