New York Fed Publishes Securities Settlement Fails Data
March 25, 2004

NEW YORK—The Federal Reserve Bank of New York has published aggregate historical securities settlement fails data from its FR 2004 Report of Dealer Positions, Transactions, and Financing with the statistical release as of March 17, 2004. Consistent with the release of other data from the FR 2004 Report series, publication of aggregate fails data will be issued weekly with a one week lag.

Settlement fails data are reported by primary dealers across four distinct categories: Treasury securities, Agency securities, Mortgage-Backed securities, and Corporate securities. The New York Fed has collected fails data in this form since July 1990 for Treasury, Agency, and Mortgage-Backed securities, and since July 2001 for Corporate securities.

A Guide to FR 2004 Settlement Fails Data, which includes a Fails Primer, accompanies the publication of these data.
