New York Fed President and CEO John C. Williams issued the following statement congratulating Robert E. Hall and Michael Woodford, winners of the 2026 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences:
“Bob and Mike have had an immense influence on our work here at the New York Fed. Mike served as one of our monetary policy advisors, and so many of our economists benefited from his guidance that they organized a conference in his honor 10 years ago. And Bob was one of main reasons I attended Stanford University and obtained my PhD in economics. He was on the committee that reviewed—and thankfully passed!—my dissertation.”
“On behalf of the New York Fed, I congratulate both of you on winning the 2026 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences. Your intellectual contributions and rigorous, deep understanding of the economy and monetary policy have shaped the ways we think about important issues today.”
