* MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area) is a city or urbanized area that is not part of a broader CMSA (defined below). ** CMSA (Consolidated Metropolitan Statistical Area) is essentially a large metropolis comprising two or more component metropolitan areas, which are referred to as PMSAs (Primary Metropolitan Statistical Areas). For example, the New York City-Northern NJ-Long Island, NY-NJ-PA-CT CMSA consists of all 15 PMSAs listed in the last 3 columns.
