Todd Keister is a financial research advisor in Money and Payments Studies. He rejoined the New York Fed in 2025, after previously serving in the Bank’s Research and Statistics Group from 2006-12. His current research focuses on preventing banking and financial crises, responding to crises when they occur, and innovation in money and the payments system. He currently serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Monetary Economics and the American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics. Keister is currently on leave from the Department of Economics at Rutgers University, and he has previously been a Professor of Economics at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) in Mexico City. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Cornell University and a B.S. in Computer Science from Duke University.
