Geert Mesters is an economic research advisor in Macroeconomic and Monetary Studies. He joined the New York Fed in 2025. His research focuses on macroeconomics and econometrics, with an emphasis on developing new methodologies. Among others, he has worked on the estimation of structural macroeconomic relationships—such as the Phillips curve—and the evaluation and optimization of macroeconomic policy using sufficient statistics. Before joining the New York Fed, Mesters was a professor at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. He holds Ph.D. degrees in Economics and Criminal Justice from the Tinbergen Institute and VU Amsterdam.
